Real Food, Real Early, Seven Days Running

Vernon Township's go-to breakfast and lunch spot, open daily from 7 AM right on Church Street.

About Us

Church Street is a quiet block, and The Crystal Cafe sits on it like it belongs there. Doors open at 7 AM every single day of the week, which means whether you're heading up to the mountain or just starting a slow Sunday, there's a hot plate waiting for you at table four.

The menu leans hard into American diner classics done with care: homemade brunch plates, fresh-made salads, and the kind of egg dishes that actually require technique. Regulars who've brought their kids to the Pumpkin Festival at Warwick Valley know the drill: eat here first, festival second. It's become a ritual for a reason.

With over 629 Google reviews and a 4.4-star rating, Crystal Cafe has earned its place as a Vernon staple. The staff knows their regulars, the kitchen keeps things fresh, and the dining room has the easy, unhurried energy that only a genuinely local spot can pull off.

What We Offer

Breakfast runs from 7 AM and covers the full spread: fluffy omelets, egg platters, pancakes, and morning specials that rotate with the season. Lunch picks up without missing a beat, with sandwiches, salads, and hearty American plates that don't feel like an afterthought.

The kitchen closes at 8 PM, giving you a full 13-hour window to stop in, which matters when plans shift. Brunch on a Tuesday? Done. Early dinner before the drive home? Covered. The cafe also draws a crowd for weekend mornings, so arriving a little before the 10 AM rush tends to get you a table faster.

Whether you're a solo regular with a usual order or a group rolling in after a morning hike in Vernon, NJ, the menu has enough range to keep everyone at the table satisfied.

"Food was..So mid. Like idk what happened but I’ve been to “interesting” spots but from the water, to the food, my appetite was like, gone after trying anything.. My shrimp salad was not what I expected. Barely any dressing(it’s not tossed in dressing, which is a miss…) just was thinly drizzled on top of the overly dough coated shrimp, and also the shrimps were so disappointing, the eggs and even avocado was… idk that whole plate was like, unpleasant. The jalapeño poppers were also completely over doughed up then the chilli was room temperature and the Brie cheese fig pear sandwich was underwhelming. I had like, such high ups but hey maybe the stuff we had order was just…blah. Maybe other dishes are better- but I did ask for recommendations and THOSE dishes were said to be some favorites, So.. go figure I attached a pic of the shrimp from the shrimp salad I ordered, and when I tell you it was crazy doughed up lol the shrimpies were so tiny, it was ALL just dough at one point. Bad sign tbh… I love shrimp but this way of cooking it was not it. Maybe a new chef would be best ??? Just saying … Service was nice tho and accommodating. Loved that at least."

"i never post negative reviews, especially not for local businesses, but the food i got today was absolutely vile (and our first visit here was also not good). my husband and i ordered a very basic omelette platter and grilled cheese at an off time of day (2pm). we placed the order online and it was a twenty minute wait for pickup, which was fine. we went to get it 20 minutes later and it wasn’t done, which is also fine - we worked in the service industry for years so we are very understanding in that regard. it wasn’t done for another 20 minutes after that, which was definitely annoying but it wouldn’t have mattered if the food was good. the grilled cheese was fine, but my omelette was not only not what i ordered, but it was so undercooked that there was just an unmelted piece of american cheese in the middle. the home fries were undercooked, unseasoned, and oily but most concerning is that they were also ORANGE. why would home fries look like this??? i have fairly low standards when it comes to food but everything was truthfully inedible and nauseating. i was willing to pass the first time off as a fluke and took a chance on the positive reviews, but that was obviously a mistake. hamburg hot bagels, granny’s pancake house, and the daily bean are all better options for similar food. i hope this place can figure it out, vernon could really use some decent places to eat."

"It's not easy to find decent food in Vernon, and while this wasn't terrible, the search continues. The Millennial Chum and I stopped by here for lunch this past Saturday after building up an appetite ziplining at nearby Mountain Creek. The menu was large with almost a diner-like quality (not a bad thing), and I was in the mood for some avocado toast specifically. It was a very nice day and I would have been perfectly fine with the outdoor seating situation off to the side of the building, but the Millennial Chum was very taken by the interior and declared we had to seat in there. It was fine - it looked like it had been recently renovated/done, but also had a dash of quaint country store to it. Not to an extreme level like a Cracker Barrel, but it's a pleasant vibe. I was kind of impressed that they had literally the most basic avocado toast option possible - literally just avocado on toast. In this day and age, I usually have to navigate around some weird crap (my limit is maybe some feta or pepper flakes, but once you start putting basically an entirely different meal on it, I'm out), so it was refreshing from that perspective. That said, this really should be an avocado mash - per the attached picture, they just chopped up pieces of browning avocado with no seasoning whatsoever, which I could easily make at home. It's extremely rare for me to add seasoning, but as soon as I saw this, I doused it with pepper. A rare instance of this being a little TOO basic. But they have the right idea. Honestly, I didn't like the strawberry pancakes. I thought they tasted artificial and not good at all. I had a few bites that were heavily centered on the strawberries, but the strawberries weren't ripe yet so they weren't juicy/flavorful. For what it's worth though, the Millennial Chum DID like them and hosed most of them down on my behalf, so maybe it's just a personal preference issue. Like a diner, the portions here are gigantic - huge points for that. Even though I was pretty tepid overall on the avocado toast, it's a portion that was arguably twice as large if not more than the serving you'd get at a bougie cafe in Jersey City or something. And in line with that, the price point is pretty amazing as well. We got a ton of food here and split a bill that I think ended up hovering around $30; really not bad. The service was okay. Our waitress was nice and we ordered/received our food promptly, but it did take a bit of time to locate her again to obtain the check. Not a huge deal though. This was okay. And given where you are, that's probably good enough."

"So good! Takeout service is fast, servers are very helpful in finding what you want in their menu. The breakfast sliders are the best sausage, egg and cheese biscuits I've had in years!"
